Thai Massage
Traditional Thai Massage is an ancient system of healing with its roots based in Yoga, Ayurvedic medicine and Buddhist spiritual healing practices. Thai Massage is a combination of massage, acupressure, stretching and gentle twisting and manipulation of the body in a warm environment.
Thai Massage is unique combination which has evolved over the centuries and passed down through specialist Thai massage schools such as the world famous Wat Po Temple school of Traditional Thai Massage in Bangkok. The Thai Government recognise the therapeutic benefits of and fully support the teaching of Traditional Thai massage in schools such as Wat Po and many others around the Kingdom.
Thai massage releases body tensions, aches and pains and increases the energy flow throughout the body by a holistic combination of therapies to create a wholeness of body, mind and spirit.
It is believed that the body has passageways known as 'sen' or 'vessels' and Thai Massage manipulate a handful of major 'sen' lines by pressing certain points on the body to force the energy throughout the body and to release tensions and blockages. The traditional Thai masseur will use manipulative methods to stimulate the 'sen' and move the energy 'lom' or air around the body's meridian.
The founder of Thai massage and medicine was believed to have been Shivago Komarpaj (Jivaka Komarabhacca), who is said in the Pali Buddhist Canon to have been the Buddha's physician over 2500 years ago.
The likelihood is that Thai massage stemmed from more than just one individual teacher and is a unique combination of Indian influences, Chinese and southern Asian influences to culminate in a local form of massage adopted by monks and medical practitioners to assist in well being.
The practice of Thai Massage is widely performed throughout the Kingdom and to be seen everywhere in Thailand as both a medicinal and therapeutic practice and a tourist service to relax those aching feet and stressed bodies. Thai massage offers the recipient a mixture of manipulation, stretching and both firm and soft massage as well as pressure points to provide a truly unique experience.
